Iloilo gets flood monitoring device from S. Korea

THE Iloilo provincial government received more than P10 million worth of early warning system and monitoring device for flood mitigation project from the South Korea government, through the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
Iloilo Governor Niel Tupas received the instruments during a ceremony held in Manila last Monday. Two other provinces in the country also received the similar instrument from South Korea.
The turnover was witnessed by Science and Technology Secretary Estrella Alabastro and Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) director Fresco Nilo.
Iloilo provincial agriculturist Ildefonso Toledo, who accompanied Gov. Tupas, said the instruments include an automatic weather station, five automatic rain gauges and automatic water level station.
The rain gauges will be stationed at Mina, Pototan, Calinog, Lambunao and San Rafael municipalities while the automatic weather station will be installed in San Enrique and the automatic water level monitoring system will be at the Moroboro Dam in Dingle and Tabucan River in Barotac Nuevo.
Toledo said a server will be installed at the provincial capitol building where all data coming from said instruments will be collated. Data will be sent through text messaging.
“We are just waiting for a team from PAGASA and experts from the Korean Meteorological Agency to install the equipment,” he said.
Toledo said the provincial government as its counterpart will be on the lead in the maintenance of the instruments and responsible for the dissemination of whatever data that they would gather.
